FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
In Ghana, we like to do things with just one tool for the whole body. It keeps things simple. The LUV SCRUB is intentionally long so you can scrub your back, scrub the rest of the body, any hard-to-reach areas with just one tool.
It can be purchased at our website, theluvscrub.com, or through one of our authorized retailers.
The product's lightweight, diamond-shaped weave and string makeup allow it to dry quickly, which preventing moisture buildup that can lead to mildew or bacteria. If you look at other exfoliation tools like the Loofah or the Shower poof, they're always clustered so they never really dry. If you actually cut one open, you can see that it's black due to bacteria and mold build up.
A knot is an important detail on the fabric that helps activate the exfoliation process. The knot is like a little ball that appears throughout the fabric at each point of the diamond-shaped weave. This ball is essential for removing dirt and dead skin on the body. Without these balls, it’s not an authentic LUV SCRUB.
Yes, you can but it takes away from the full experience. If you cut it in half, you will not have a long enough piece to scrub your back with ease.
Over time, your LUV SCRUB may fray slightly on the sides due to normal wear and tear. This is completely normal. Its intentional hand-cut construction helps minimize excessive fraying.
When you first receive a new LUV SCRUB, you might think, “Why is this so short?” It’s always a little shorter at first, but once you wet it and use it a couple of times, it will stretch and grow longer.

With LUV SCRUB, our dyes do not run. We use an intensive, non-negotiable dyeing process. While color may fade slightly over time, the dye will not bleed, ensuring no color transfer during use.
Absolutely. LUV SCRUB is designed for daily use and can replace loofahs or washcloths.
Yes, but start gently. As you get comfortable, you can gradually increase pressure.
We recommend replacing your LUV SCRUB after 18 months as a good best practice.
The traditional Ghanaian way is to wash it with hot water and let it air dry. Machine washing is possible but not recommended, as it can soften the fabric, loosen knots, and reduce exfoliating capabilities. Sterilizing on the stove is also an option.
You can ball it up for general body scrubbing or stretch it flat to scrub your back. Some people like to fold it in half, which is perfectly fine too. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with how you use it.
Softens with time, which will lose exfoliating capabilities. Knots can loosen Color may fade Will continue to grow in length (a good thing!) Does not fall apart, however edges will fray
It is not recommended for individuals with sensitive skin, eczema, or other skin conditions, as it could cause more harm than good.
Absolutely. It's great for travel. We recommend wrapping it in paper towels or a hotel towel to absorb extra moisture before packing to prevent mildew. It’s a simple and effective trick.
For centuries, Ghanaians used a natural loofah, a stringy and puffy sponge derived from a tree, for exfoliation. Then, during the late 70s, early 80s, somebody in Ghana happened to take this cloth and use it to take a bath. We don't know who this person is. We don't know where they came from or why they even felt compelled to try it, but it was pretty much genius. The new cloth quickly gained popularity for its superior ability to clean the skin, remove dirt and dead skin, and leave the body luminous and smooth. It became a religiously used item by Ghanaians to luxuriate the skin in the shower. That is the cloth that inspired the LUV SCRUB.
When I was five years old, my mom handed me the cloth to take my bath. I didn't ask any questions. It was just something that I just did. Fast forward to when I was in high school. My friends would come over and they would see this net hanging in the shower and be curious about it. I always thought it was strange that other people didn't know what it was because I didn't realize it was a Ghanaian thing until I grew up. I just thought everyone used it. Fast forward to when I graduated college. My best friend slept over and she used my cloth to clean her skin without asking permission. I thought it was crazy. I was so annoyed with her. She came out freaking out and begged my parents, begged me to ask my parents to bring her one. She wanted one that wasn't too soft, wasn't too hard. When my parents went to Ghana, they found the perfect one for her. They brought it back and gave it to her. She was using it, her husband was using it, her sister was using it, the same one. And they were obsessed. During that time, I didn't know that it was going to be what it is today. I didn't think that it was a business idea. Fast forward to 2011. I was at a party, feeling fabulous and awkward, and I was drinking wine and then somebody complimented me on my skin and I told them what I was using in the shower. I usually don't share that information, but I just felt a little awkward. They told me I should package it and sell it. With my background in branding and merchandising, I started testing the idea. So, I went ahead and I started to travel to different stores in Manhattan to see if there was anything like it on the market, and there was nothing. I asked my parent to send me products so I can send out samples. So, with no packaging, no company name, I ended up sending samples to a spa in Boston. Three weeks later, they said that they wanted to sell it in their three locations. And I was like, wow. It really gave me the confidence to keep going. I hosted LUV SCRUB parties and talking about beauty and like hors d' oeuvres and cocktails with fun names, and people would get together and buy LUV SCRUBS. I remember my first party, I sold, like, over $1,000 of LUV SCRUBS, which is crazy. So, I had a cute little business, and I went ahead and continue to do it for about six months. And then I felt a little burnt out. I didn't like how I was running the business because it wasn't really being run like a true business. Eventually, I took a break, but the idea never left me. In 2016, I decided to go full-time, took marketing classes, and found a factory to produce a beautiful, high-quality version. Because what I was selling before was not that cute and I wanted to have beautiful packaging. Then, in December 2016, I launched it, and it was just the most amazing feeling. I was taking up the time to pitch the press. Three months later, Yahoo Beauty published a story titled “I’ll Never Shower the Same Way Again.” It went viral. People started using the product. They were obsessed with it, and it just kept on, like, blowing up and blowing up and blowing up. Fast forward to today. We're sold globally. We are sold in major retailers. We have won the Allure Beauty award. We have been coined the new loofah from People magazine, and also Oprah gave us the bath Award for 2025. This idea that just came about by chance has really taken the world by storm. And people all around the world have been tossing their loofahs, washcloths, and incorporating African culture into everyday routines. That makes me so happy. Africa has beautiful products and there is a lot of opportunity to really tell our story and have people try things that have been used in Africa by Africans for generations. We keep things so simple and I’m proud about it.
Don’t throw it away. Repurpose it for gym use, travel, or other purposes.
The price reflects premium fabric, meticulous construction, specific standards, finished edges (for longevity), custom sizes, and unique custom dyes. This intentional design ensures a high-quality product. We take a lot of time to make sure we have the perfect product that we feel proud to sell, that we feel proud for our retailers to sell, and that you feel proud to use and to gift.
We recommend change out your LUV SCRUB every 18 months. So that's a dollar a month, 50 cents for the front of the body, 50 cents for the back of the body. Considering how it helps with ingrown hairs, body acne, and keratosis pilaris, it’s an incredible value.
We offer fewer colors due to the high cost and minimums associated with custom cutting and dyeing. Each color is carefully chosen and we are obsessed with every single one of them. However, we will be introducing more limited-edition colors and then also we will be bringing in some colors here and there just for some newness.
Use it with our Samina Bars or your favorite shower gel. You can also add body oil as an activator for extra smoothness. It’s also excellent for dry brushing without any other products.
It’s custom cut and custom dyed, with premium finishing and the best hand feel in the industry. The finished edges increase longevity, and the signature knots enhance exfoliation. It’s also the perfect length for scrubbing your back and other hard-to-reach areas.
Anybody that takes a shower can use LUV SCRUB with exceptions if you have sensitive skin or any skin conditions. We also don't market it to children.
That’s a natural occurrence over time as the product stretches. It actually helps target the back more effectively
